Your Instagram page is not a website

An Instagram page is a great start, but it cannot do what a website does. Here is what a clinic we work with learned, and what to check for your own business.

Many businesses start on Instagram, and that makes sense. It is free, it is fast, and your clients are already there. The trouble begins when Instagram is the only place your business exists online.

What happened to a clinic we work with

For years, this clinic lived only on Instagram. The page looked good and the clients were happy. But when people searched for the clinic’s name on Google, they found a different clinic with the same name, in another country.

Clients who wanted to leave a review could not find where to do it. The clinic had no website and no Google Business Profile, so for Google it did not really exist.

Why Instagram alone is not enough

  • Google shows websites and business profiles first. An Instagram page rarely appears for searches like “clinic near me”.
  • AI tools such as ChatGPT recommend businesses they can read about. They learn from websites, not from photo captions.
  • You do not own your Instagram page. The rules and the reach can change at any time.
  • A website answers the questions clients ask before they contact you: what you offer, where you are, and how to book.

What to check today

  1. Search your business name on Google. Are you the first result?
  2. Ask an AI tool to recommend a business like yours in your area. Does your name come up?
  3. Look for your Google Business Profile. Does it exist, and can clients leave reviews?

If the answer to any of these is no, your Instagram page is doing all the work alone.

Keep your Instagram. It is where people get to know you. A website is where they find you and decide to contact you.
